Things that have recently occurred in my life have made me re-think this question. I’ve always considered anyone that plays video games a gamer. But apparently there’s more to this answer than I’ve realized.
I personally think there are 3 different types of gamers: Casual, Competitive, and Online gamers. Casual is for all the people who just play for fun and enjoy the thrill of looking at pixels float through your TV screen. Online is more of meeting other people while you stare at those pixels. And last, competitive gaming is more of the “Hey, you think your good at this video game? Ok, prove it!” status. So you think you’re a gamer? Well, what kind are you?
I know exactly what kind of gamer I am, competitive. I started out as a casual gamer with the NES, than the 64, (then every other console) and making my way through the PlayStation years, and I’ve finally made my rest with the Xbox 360. PC Gaming is what really got me into the whole Online gaming community. Playing lots of Counter Strike and spending time strategizing my armies in Red Alert 1 & 2. But what I live off right now is competitive gaming!!! I experience the ultimate thrill competing with thousands of other people every month. Attending gaming events became apart of my life in 2007. I participated in my first gaming event at MLG Meadowlands 2007, and honestly, that was a fucking blast! I competed in Rainbow Six Vegas with some friends that needed a fourth, and watched vVv Vision take first place in Gears of War. It was an event that got me hooked on competing. I now play Gears of War on an All Female Team called ProVoKaTiVe. From then on, I’ve been set my heart into attending every event possible.
So I ask you readers. What kind of gamer are you? And do you think there is a certain “Better” type of gamer?
